Clos Cristal - Eric and Celine Dubois run this vineyard for the Hospice de Saumur. The vineyard is unique having 10 hectares surrounded completely by walls (clos) and with walls also running through the enclosure. What makes it unique is the vines growing through the walls. Why? To maximise the walls effect of reflecting heat and therefore improving grape maturity. Both Celine & Eris studied Oenology locally at Montreuil Bellay and many members of their family are also wine makers inthe local area.
Domaine Filleatreau - The vineyard beneath La Grande Vignolle is laid out here to represent the symbol of The National Monuments of France. Amazing Saumur Champigny wines that are great for keeping. See the Lordships dwelling cut deep into the cliffside before trying the wines in the tasting room.
Chateau de Chaintres - Organic production on 20 hectares. A beautiful chateau with vineyards completely enclosed by walls. The Cuvee des Oritoriens 2005 is a coup de coeur but then the house is pretty stunning too! Chateau Hureau
Domaine des Roches Neuves - Owned and run by Thierray Germain son of Bernard Germain from the famous Chateau des Fesles in the Anjou region. Thierray's reds speak fro themselves and names to look out for include Marginale, Terres Chaudes and Insolite.
Chateau Yvonne - recently taken over by a young and dynamic winemaker. Great whites and reds but now also producing a sparkling called L'Yvonnade in a traditional french lemonade bottle.
