Loire Wine Appellations

La Grande Maison is surrounded by AOC Saumur vineyards. Step out side the gates of the house and  you are immediately surrounded by vines. Enjoy the view from the potager (vegetable garden) by the old grape pickers hut. From here the views stretch to the Coteaux De Layon and the sunsets are amazing.

The vineyards below you as you look from the potager belong to the Anjou appellation & a short walk over the hill you are in the Saumur region with the newest appellation of Saumur - Le Puy Notre Dame.

Take an organised Wine Tour, go on  a hike from the house or jump on a bike and you will immediately find yourself on the Route Touristique du Vignoble de l'Anjou. Les Caves, Le Puy Notre Dame, Oire and Messeme with their wineries are all only a short stroll away.

If you don't want the exercise then let us take you on a chauffeur driven Wine Tour and we'll stop for a few tastings on the way!! You don't even need to worry about drinking and driving.

Creativity, Diversity and Productivity. Our Key to Loire Wines

There are 69 Appellations d’Origine Contrôlées in the Loire Valley’s patchwork of vines from Nantes to Sancerre. The wines of Anjou, Saumur and the Touraine in the centre of this area where La Grande Maison is located, group together a total of 49 AOCs and it is this area that we will visit from the house as it  offers a  creativity and diversity of wines including -still rosé, white and red, and sparkling wines. A good place to start for a general overview on all that the Loire Valley has to offer is available at :  www.vinsvaldeloire.fr

Here are just a few wine styles and colours you will be able to experience during you stay at La Grande Maison. Amazingly this diversity is produced using two main grapes of the appellation, chenin blanc for the whites and cabernet franc for the reds. Just click on the link for a more detailed explanation of each wine style including a map, description of terroir and it's associated wine.
