Wine tasting at the local wineries is of course a must and this site has pages dedicated to wine and vineyards. However the area also offers a wide range of other interesting places to visit such as :
Saumur Chateau, Montsoreau, Fontevraud Abbey, the wine caves of St Hilaire St Florent, the Cadre Noir, the Rose Gardens of Doué la Fontaine, the famous troglodyte zoo & the underground village of Rochemenier.
The famous chateau of Montreuil Bellay is close by. It's wine caves and gardens are well worth a visit and there are beautiful walks along the banks of the river Thouet
Le Puy Notre Dame home to many local wine producers and underground mushroom caves. A quiet village on the surface but you will soon find out everything goes on underground!
There are numerous festivals and celebrations at all times of the year. The colour, history, traditions and culture of Anjou are always on display.
The historic village of Amboise with it's chateau and chapel with the tomb of Leonardo DaVinci is definitely worth as visit as is Clos de Luce the final home of DaVinci in France.
The fabulous gardens and chateau at Villandry are well worth a visit and are spectacular at any time of the year. With the chateaux of Chenonceau and Chambord not too far away.
The celebration of the new release of Coteaux de Layon in Aubigne Sur Layon. The wine is served directly from the barrel into an ancient stone trough.
Angers is home to the Cointreau Distillery & the castle where the Apocalypse Tapestries are displayed. Don’t forget the banks of the rivers the Loire, the Dive and the Thouet for an ideal picnic stop.
You can take a hot air balloon ride over the river and vineyards for a spectacular evening out. We caught this one going over the house. We can make arrangements for you www.montgolfieres.fr or www.montgolfiere49.com.
